About

Childhood Experiences

When I was nine years old, my brother got a Commodore 64 for Christmas. He taught me how to program stick figures to appear on the screen. I remember how thrilled I was with that accomplishment! However, computers weren't commonplace back then and I was in high school before I had the opportunity to take a real programming class.

Childhood experiences

TriBBS

Shortly after I graduated from high school, a friend showed me how to set up a BBS (Bulletin Board System) using the MS-DOS software TriBBS. If you've never heard of a BBS before, it's like the internet on a much smaller scale, but instead of connecting to servers with high speed internet, users would connect directly to a host computer by dialing over the phone line with a modem. Before the "World Wide Web" became publicly available, BBSes offered message boards, games and even file sharing. I was an aspiring SysOp (System Operator) but unfortunately, less than a year later the internet's popularity began to soar and most of my registered users defected to this new (and most unwelcome) technology.

The Start of a Career

About ten years later, in 2003, I started my own web design business. I named it "Dirt Cheap Web Designs" with the tagline "Quality For the Pocketbook Impaired". The first website I built had a table-based layout, an animated dancing dog and music that played when the Home page loaded. I thought it was the coolest thing ever! I've been addicted to my work ever since.

After six years of doing business "dirt cheap", I renamed my business "Foxglove Website Designs" and I continued to serve clients for many years until making the difficult decision to let the business go in 2021.

Present Day

From 2013 to 2019, I worked as a Web Developer / PHP Programmer at USAgNet, a web development company that focuses on services for the agricultural industry. In 2019, I accepted a position as a Ruby on Rails developer from Fabricut, a worldwide distributor of decorative fabrics headquartered in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

I currently work as a Software Developer/Engineer at CoverMyMeds.
